Following our Dreams to Happily Ever After

We moved to our little 4 acre homestead with the dream to raise our great danes in a open environment, where they could play and run around with all the space they could want. We also wanted to change our lifetimes from being fully dependent on supermarkets to raising and growing some of our food.

The Homestead is ever growing. We first started first with our pair of Kune Kunes, Mickey and Evan in 2017. We subsequently fell in love with the breed and soon Heather and Nacho joined us, followed by siblings Paisano and Puddles and finally little miss Princess Daffy Lynn.

I first became interested in Great Danes after watching the movie The Ugly Dachshund as a child. I knew in my adult life I would have one of those giant dogs. I got my first Dane in 2001, he was a mantle marked merle named Cuda. Life with him was an adventure. He became the first Great Dane in the state of Oklahoma to become a Certified Therapy Dog with Paws for Friendship. He was a natural at it and seemed to instinctively know where he was needed most. We visited nursing homes and children’s homes. He sadly became very ill and we weren’t able to save him. He passed quietly at home with his head in my lap. It took me 8 years to feel ready to get another. Thanks to Melody Rainwater of Littlehorse Danes, my second Dane a merle named Castiel entered my life, he is be 8 years old as of February 2019. Our third dane was another LIttlehorse that was being rehomed. He, Horton, was a deaf harlequin. He passed away Oct 2017 at 6 years old. And now we have baby Belle, a black with white markings, she is just 6 months old and the future of our own breeding program under the guidance of my “yoda” Melody Rainwater.  Our danes are European line danes. We do have plans in the future of showing our own danes as well as doing various dog sports with them. We feel it is just important to have a title at the end of their name for a performance venue as it is the CH at the beginning of the name as the title at the end of the name speaks more about their termperament as the CH at the beginning speaks of their conformation to breed standards.
